With the Circle Line stage 6 (CCL6) due to open by the first half of 2026, we're about a year and a half away from the section's completion. Most of the stations' exits have had the roof structures installed and works were transitioning towards the completion of architectural, mechanical & electrical components. We take a closer look at the progress made at the various stations and sites along the project after the jump.

CCL6 - A snapshot in October 2024

Looks like it has been some time since we made an update on Circle Line stage 6 (CCL6). Since our last update the most significant milestone would be the decommissioning of the temporary staging area for trackworks - more on that later. The various stations also have seen installation of escalators completed at 8 of the eligible exits, while the remaining exit will feature lift-only access.

CCL6 - A snapshot in August 2024

An overview of the 4 sites helping to close the Circle Line loop as of August 2024.

Over August 2024, progress at the Circle Line 6 sites has seen work commence or continue on the roof of 7 of the 9 station exits. At this point, escalators had been installed in 7 of the 8 exits requiring their use as well. Additionally, noise barriers had begun to be taken down at Prince Edward Road, following similar works at Keppel before. More details after the jump.

In July, headway was made through the installation of escalators at Keppel station, the casting of roof slabs for Exits 1 & 2 at Cantonment station and the installation of metal roof frames at Prince Edward Road station. Over at the site of the cut & cover tunnels, work continued ahead of the eventual reinstatement of the roads in the vicinity.

C886 - C&C Tunnels & Trackworks update October 2023

14 October 2023 - An overview of the contract 886 site.

Besides getting a great view of Prince Edward Road station, the team also enjoyed great views of the cut & cover tunnels linking Prince Edward Road and Marina Bay stations. This also includes a section of tunnels splitting off the main line known as the turnback tunnels. It is here that the trackworks contractor is given a site to work from, known as the Temporary Staging Area (TSA).

C886 - C&C Tunnels & Trackworks in progress

4 August 2023 - Trackwork Staging Area (TSA) at the turnback siding.

The recent visit to the Westin Hotel not only gave great views of Prince Edward Road station, but also of the cut & cover tunnels linking to Marina Bay station as well. Being built under contract 886, the tunnels will also feature a turnback siding, from where trackworks are taking place.

C886 - Cut & Cover tunnels + Trackwork preparation

5 June 2023 - A view of the contract 886 cut & cover turnback tunnel site along Park Street.

Structural works at contract 886 appear to be almost done with the site being handed over to the trackworks contractor. Known as a temporary staging area (TSA), this will form the base for trackworks to be carried out. Through the duration of the track installation work, some gantry cranes and other support equipment may be used.

C886 - C&C Tunnels 2022 year-end update

25 November 2022 - A view of the cut & cover tunnels seen from Marina Bay station Exit 5.

25 November 2022 - A close up view of the cut & cover tunnel work site. The retaining wall is
visible.

Like neighbouring contract 885 for the construction of Prince Edward Road station, there isn't much visible progress at contract 886 for the cut & cover tunnels at Marina Bay. However, with the opening of the new Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) exits at Marina Bay station, we have discovered a new vantage point that allows views of the portion connecting to the existing Marina Bay station over run tunnels. Bits of the retaining wall can be viewed from the station exit here.

C886 - C&C tunnels at Marina Bay

14 September 2022 - A view of the contract 886 work
sites for both the main line & turn back tunnels.

Contract 886 is for the construction of cut & cover (C&C) tunnels for Circle Line 6 at the Marina Bay area. This contract consists of 2 sections - the main line section and the turnback tunnel section. The tracks at Prince Edward Road (PER) station are in a stacked configuration, thus as they head eastwards to Marina Bay station, the tracks split into two directions. One set known as the main line tunnels, turns southwards to connect to the existing Marina Bay station while another set turns eastwards to end just before Shenton Way station on the Thomson-East Coast Line. This second set is known as the turn back tunnels and will serve to allow trains terminating at PER to reverse directions and commence their return journey at the correct level (as PER is of a stacked platform configuration, hence the tracks are on different levels).

Circle Line 6 Project Information Centre

Recently Minister for Transport Mr. Khaw Boon Wan shared a post introducing the Circle Line 6 Project Information Centre (PIC) which was officially opened. The Project Information Centre is located along Spottiswoode Road in front of the former Tanjong Pagar Railway Station and is open to the public on a walk-in basis, unlike some other centres which require prior bookings and arrangements (for example the Thomson-East Coast Line stage 3 PIC at Orchard station).
