February 2019 - Cantonment station progress

Contract 883 is for the construction of Cantonment station along the Circle Line stage 6. The awarded contractor is China State Construction Engineering Co (CSCEC), who are also part of a joint venture with Nishimatsu Corporation on adjoining contract 882. The contract for Cantonment station involves construction of only the station structure with no tunneling works included.

In February, preparation works for the site of Entrance A were underway. The site had been hoarded off and installation works were proceeding on the noise barrier.

11 February 2019 - The excavation area of the future exit has been hoarded up.

11 February 2019 - Work is on going for the installation of hoarding and sound barriers.

At the main station box site, earth retaining & stablising structures (ERSS) work was still underway. This includes the installation of diaphragm wall panels, secant bore piles or sheet piles around the perimeter of the excavation site to hold the surrounding soil in place and prevent collapse into the excavation area.

With works progressing, the contractor should begin excavation later this year. This station will employ a top-down method of construction where the levels are cast as excavation progresses downwards.
