C882 - Keppel update Q2 2023

The Circle Line is progressing towards final loop closure with the addition of 3 stations along a 4km route between HarbourFront and Marina Bay terminals. Bored tunneling works between the stations have been completed for some time now while work continues on at the stations and cut & cover tunnels at the Marina Bay area. At the surface level, it is difficult to tell how much progress has been achieved. However by estimates, it is anticipated that the three stations should achieve basic structure completion some time this year with the exits to follow thereafter. Join us as we explore the progress under contract 882 for Keppel station.

C882 - Keppel 2022 year-end update

30 December 2022 - An aerial view of the station site

Keppel station has made great progress through the year. Part of the station site has commenced back-filling work with soil being progressively placed back on top of the completed roof slab. An excavation pit is also now visible to allow the construction of the station exit near the road side table.

C883 - Cantonment 2022 year-end update

30 December 2022 - An excavation pit for one of the station exits.

30 December 2022 - An overview of the station site.

Cantonment station, much like the others along Circle Line 6, has been under construction for several years now. As this section of the line passes through generally built up and sensitive sites, the stations are being built using a top-down approach. Unfortunately, this means that observing the works within the excavation site are not that easy with little visible changes viewable from the surface. The narrative here is no different - the surface-level site appears the same whilst there were some noticeable works to remove struts at one of the station exits along Spottiswoode Road.

C886 - C&C Tunnels 2022 year-end update

25 November 2022 - A view of the cut & cover tunnels seen from Marina Bay station Exit 5.

25 November 2022 - A close up view of the cut & cover tunnel work site. The retaining wall is
visible.

Like neighbouring contract 885 for the construction of Prince Edward Road station, there isn't much visible progress at contract 886 for the cut & cover tunnels at Marina Bay. However, with the opening of the new Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) exits at Marina Bay station, we have discovered a new vantage point that allows views of the portion connecting to the existing Marina Bay station over run tunnels. Bits of the retaining wall can be viewed from the station exit here.

C885 - Prince Edward Road 2022 year-end update

21 November 2022 - A view of the excavation pit along Shenton Way.

It's been a while since we dropped by Prince Edward Road to check on progress. Things are coming along, but there is not much visible changes at street level. The work site is still filled with machinery performing their various tasks. There are no openings visible yet for station exits, ventilation buildings or cooling towers.

C886 - C&C tunnels at Marina Bay

14 September 2022 - A view of the contract 886 work
sites for both the main line & turn back tunnels.

Contract 886 is for the construction of cut & cover (C&C) tunnels for Circle Line 6 at the Marina Bay area. This contract consists of 2 sections - the main line section and the turnback tunnel section. The tracks at Prince Edward Road (PER) station are in a stacked configuration, thus as they head eastwards to Marina Bay station, the tracks split into two directions. One set known as the main line tunnels, turns southwards to connect to the existing Marina Bay station while another set turns eastwards to end just before Shenton Way station on the Thomson-East Coast Line. This second set is known as the turn back tunnels and will serve to allow trains terminating at PER to reverse directions and commence their return journey at the correct level (as PER is of a stacked platform configuration, hence the tracks are on different levels).
