Year-end Spotlight: Contract 883 - Cantonment

To wrap up the end of the year, we're doing a short "Spotlight" series for the Circle Line Stage 6 (CCL6). In this series, we'll look at the progress made at the various CCL6 stations through the course of the year. We began this series with our first post on Keppel station, so we'll now be moving onto the second station along the section of line - Cantonment.

The structures at Cantonment station are designed to integrate with the national monument sitting directly above the station - the old Tanjong Pagar Railway Station (TPRS). Architectural designs of Cantonment station factored in the original designs of the TPRS, with beige facade and green roofing. Most of the station's exits now feature the public transport logo caplet and other basic facilities common to MRT station exits such as LED train arrival board displays, information signage housing and lighting provided for. Pick-up/Drop-off (PUDO) facilities are available at most of the exits as well.

Exit 1
At the beginning of the year, the exit was a mere concrete shell structure. However, by year's end, the exit had been fully fitted out with hoarding around removed and replaced by temporary construction fencing. The LED train arrivals board could clearly be seen at the entryway and all tiling & lighting were already installed. What was missing from the exit though were the public transport logo caplet sign & station name signs. The first & last train information panels were also not seen at the exit, although these may have been located inside.

1 February 2025 - How it started: Exit 1 as a bare concrete shell.

14 December 2025 - How its going: Exit 1 in its fully fit out state.

14 December 2025 - A view of the exit from Keppel Road.

14 December 2025 - The LED train arrivals board clearly visible through the entryway.

Exit 2
Similar to Exit 1, this exit had progressed from a mere shell behind construction hoarding to a mostly ready structure behind temporary fencing. Unlike Exit 1, though, this exit had the public transport logo caplet sign already affixed. Station name signage was not present, however.

1 February 2025 - How it started: Exit 2 under construction behind construction hoarding.

14 December 2025 - How its going: Exit 2 fully constructed with hoarding removed and temporary
fencing installed.

14 December 2025 - Another view of the completed Exit 2.

14 December 2025 - The public transport logo caplet sign visible above the lift lobby.

Exit 3
This exit has probably shown the most amount of progress through the year - at the beginning of the year, the exit was a mere concrete shell minimal sections of roof frame in sight. By the end of the year, the roof frame had been installed and the exit also received the public transport logo caplet sign. The missing components were the station name sign and the first & last train information panel.

1 February 2025 - How it started: concrete shell structures, with minimal roof supporting frame
being installed.

14 December 2025 - How its going: roof completely installed. Nearby PUDO facility can be
seen as well.

14 December 2025 - A view of Exit 3 from street level.

14 December 2025 - The public transport logo caplet sign affixed to the exit's facade.

14 December 2025 - Another view of Exit 3 and the connected PUDO facility.

Exit 4
This exit along Keppel Road and abutting the old railway station has been the quickest to be completed. Early on in the year, the exit was already at advanced stages of construction. By year's end, the differences seen were still substantial with the complete installation of glass panels and cladding completed. The exit is ready to receive commuters when the line is thrown open, with the public transport logo caplet clearly displayed. Similar to other exits though, the station name sign and first & last train information panels are missing.

1 February 2025 - How it started: Exit 4, with its heavy use of metal components, still had some
way to go.

14 December 2025 - How its going: Exit 4, in its completed state, with open plaza in front of
the TPRS.

14 December 2025 - A view of the side of Exit 4. The public transport logo caplet sign is visible.

14 December 2025 - Details of the side of Exit 4. Rain screens here do not have architectural
features, unlike those at Keppel station.

14 December 2025 - A view of the plaza area abutting TPRS. Care has been taken to ensure the
integration of the new station exit with the surrounding environment.

14 December 2025 - Another view of the plaza area with the station exit.

Station cooling tower
The cooling tower provided for at the station is a large facility that had yet to have its louvres installed at the beginning of the year. By year's end, the installation of the louvres was completed and construction hoarding around the site began to be removed.

1 February 2025 - How it started: an aerial view of the cooling tower showing the condensor
units exposed. Construction hoarding was present around the site, including the 12m high
noise barriers.

14 December 2025 - How its going: an aerial view of the cooling tower at the station. The formerly
exposed condensor units were no longer visible, covered by louvres. Construction hoarding
and the 12m high noise barriers were no longer present.

14 December 2025 - A view of the cooling tower facility from street level.

With that, we're 2/3s of the way through the review of CCL6's stations for 2025. Both Keppel and Cantonment have shown remarkable progress thus far and we look forward to the line's opening in time to come. Here's to a bright 2026!

This post will be available on Instagram & Facebook on 18 December 2025.
