C886 - Cut & Cover tunnels update May 2024

to Marina Bay station.

The last contract along the Circle Line 6 (CCL6) mainline is contract 886 for the construction of cut & cover tunnels between Prince Edward Road and Marina Bay stations. Work here has been swiftly completed with the backfilling works done. Trackworks are also progressing well within the Temporary Staging Area (TSA), located at the turnback tunnel.

Nearer to the Marina Coastal Expressway (MCE), roadways that link up to the expressway are beginning to form. Previously diverted to facilitate the construction of the tunnels, these are now being returned to their final alignments.

With works progressing well, trackworks should wrap up some time towards the end of the year. The tunnel openings will need to be sealed up before testing of the new section of line can begin. This testing & commissioning process may take up to a year, with trains first running at very slow speeds to ensure that the train sets are able to run through the section without hitting any fixtures or fittings. Gradually, the line's speeds are increased before multiple trains begin occupying the section of line at a time.

Recently, Alstom packed the third new order CCL train - set 67 - and began the process of shipping the train set to Singapore. A further 20 sets are expected before the order - Contract 851E - is completed. We'll continue to bring you updates as the line progresses - do check back occasionally for updates!
