This past week we have been celebrating the Circle Line's 14th anniversary with throwbacks on our Instagram & Facebook stories. If you haven't joined us on those platforms, come join in the fun by clicking on the links! To move forward into current times though, we'll be taking a look at progress at Contract 883 for the construction of Cantonment station. The photos in this post were kindly provided by Seloloving - a big thank you for helping with the groundwork and allowing us to use the pictures.

The old KTM railway station, designated as a national monument in 2011, sits on the western end of the Cantonment station site. Contractors building the connecting tunnels from neighbouring Prince Edward Road station had to tunnel beneath the monument without damaging the structure. Although tunneling works have since been successfully completed, the metal bracing serving to provide the structure with additional support still remains and will likely be in place till the platform canopies are restored.

The main station box site appears largely the same with the exception of the application of water proofing layers to the station roof. These appear as a black layer on the top and serve to protect the structure from any surface runoff or groundwater.

A station exit will be located next to block 108 along Spottiswoode Park Road. The structure within the excavation pit has progressed somewhat with the concrete structure visible when looking down into the pit. Where there were 3 levels of struts previously, there are now only 2 levels remaining.

When one passes along Keppel Road to the south of the main site, some views of the station box construction can be seen. A concrete pump truck can be seen with its boom extended and descending into the construction opening indicating that concreting is still ongoing.

According to a recent circular by the Land Transport Authority on the contract's official Telegram channel, works to reinstate the former KTM railway station platform canopies will begin in quarter 3 of the year. Works to remove the noise barriers and hoarding on the northern end of the site will begin, lasting up to July 2023. With the news of the upcoming reinstatement of the former railway station's platform canopies, we can look forward to the station achieving basic structural completion soon.

Once again, we'd like to thank Seloloving for allowing us the use of the images for this post. Do continue following us for more periodic updates on the progress of CCL6 and other lines.

This post will also be available on Instagram & Facebook from 2 June 2023.
