Prince Edward Road station is located in an extremely tight location bounded by Shenton Way to the west, the Marina Coastal Expressway to the south and the Bestway building to the north-east. Several religious buildings dot the site, making it a tough fit to construct a station in the location while being able to maneuver machinery about the site.

The contract for the project - Contract 885 - involves the construction of a 3-level underground station with stacked platforms and 2 exits, including two bored tunnels towards Cantonment station. Prior to commencement of ground works, demolition of several buildings was necessary and the existing Shenton Way bus terminal had to be relocated.

Following the demolition works, ground preparation works finally could commence on the site. As with all underground work sites, the first stage was to outline the excavation site with the temporary earth retaining & stabilizing system, in this case diaphragm walls. With the walls in place, horizontal braces called struts can be installed to maintain rigidity of the walls to prevent inward collapse.

Diaphragm wall works continue at the main station area as well as on the eastern side near the Bestway Building. The station will be built using the top-down method where each level's permanent slab is cast before excavation continues on downwards, using the concrete structure as a rigid means of stabilizing the site. Once the diaphragm walls are completed, the first level of excavation can commence till just under the station roof slab depth. Thereafter, the slab will be constructed and poured, while openings in the roof slab allow for access to the lower levels.
