June 2019 - Keppel station progress

Contact 882 is for the construction of Keppel station and bored tunnels between HarbourFront and Cantonment stations. Since our last update in February, works have progressed significantly at both ends of the station.

25 May 2019 - Excavation begins at the eastern launch shaft, for tunnels towards
Cantonment station.
2 June 2019 - Excavation completed till base of capping beam level.
17 June 2019 - Rebar skeleton in place for concrete pouring and casting.

The eastern launch shaft has since been dug to the first level where the rebar skeleton is put in place ahead of the concrete pour. This will give the launch shaft a rigid horizontal bracing and allow the diaphragm walls to retain the surrounding earth as excavation progresses further down.

17 June 2019 - Visibly less crowded work site

17 June 2019
Over the main station area, diaphragm wall works appear to have been completed with the site looking less crowded. King posts can also been seen - these are long vertical steel posts upon which struts and waler beams can be connected to in order to receive vertical support for long spans. The king posts will be driven into the ground before excavation begins.

25 May 2019 - Excavation next to west launch shaft beginning.
2 June 2019 - First level of struts in place, following excavation.
Excavation of the station area abutting the western launch shaft has also begun and the first level of struts have been installed. Excavation will eventually progress downwards till just below the station roof slab level to enable casting of the roof slab as the station will be constructed using the top-down approach.

25 May 2019 - One of the two gantry cranes at the western launch shaft set up.

17 June 2019 - Noise enclosure being built around the western launch shaft.
17 June 2019 - Ground improvement works ahead of tunneling works commencement.
At the western launch shaft, the gantry cranes for both tunnel boring machines (TBMs) have been set up. Following that, the noise enclosure around the launch shaft is being built up ahead of tunneling work commencement in the next few months.
